The weekend before last, I had the pleasure of visiting the beautiful Cotswolds with my husband and parents, exploring the charming market towns of Malmesbury and Tetbury. These towns are not only steeped in history and character, but also home to some truly outstanding independent boutiques that deserve to be celebrated.

Henrietta’s House – Tetbury

Our first discovery in Tetbury was Henrietta’s House, a delightful toy shop filled with traditional toys, thoughtful gifts, and beautiful baby items. I was thrilled to see a wonderful selection of eco-friendly wooden toys, organic cotton clothing, and playful pieces for little ones. Among the treasures, I spotted Pigeon Organics, a brand I know well and admire, perfectly nestled within the shop’s carefully curated collection.

Dot & Doug – Tetbury

Just across the street, we found Dot & Doug, a charming children’s boutique run by the talented Emma Hicks. Every piece of her gorgeous cotton clothing is handmade in the back of her shop, a true testament to craftsmanship and care. The store’s accessories, socks, shoes, and toys complemented her clothing perfectly, creating a space that felt personal, authentic, and full of heart.

Sassy & Boo – Tetbury + Malmesbury

Although my focus is usually on children’s wear, I can’t help but appreciate a beautifully merchandised boutique with a clear sense of its customer. SASSY & BOO LIMITED embodies exactly that, from the carefully chosen collections to the overall in-store experience, it was a joy to browse.

Why This Matters

Visiting these boutiques reminded me why it’s so important to support British independent retailers. Each store told its own story — through the products, the presentation, and the people behind them. They’re not just selling goods; they’re creating experiences and fostering connections that enrich our communities.

If you ever find yourself in the Cotswolds, I highly recommend taking time to explore Tetbury and Malmesbury. Not only will you enjoy the beautiful surroundings, but you’ll also be supporting small, independent businesses that are making a positive impact in the retail world.
